Freshwater or Saltwater?

Updated: Jun 4, 2024

Kings Bay is not strictly freshwater like a lake or inland spring, it is directly connected to the Gulf and is tidally affected every day, twice a day.

  • Levels of salinity vary from the mouth of the river to the springs and even from one end of Kings Bay to the other.

  • Some species of seagrasses are more saltwater or freshwater tolerant than others; level and duration of the saltwater exposure affects different species to one degree or another.
